Reason 4: Immersive Performance - Sitting Inside The Cell

Further Research Will Help Me Establish...
The Performance
-
What would it look like for people to sit inside the cell during the performance? The positioning of the seating affects the impact of the performance.
-
The spatial organization inside a cell so I can translate it accurately into the performance space. Knowing how the nucleus, cytoplasm, and membrane relate will help me design the audience seating in concentric rings and the performer movement inside the “nucleus.”
-
The transparency of C. elegans to inspire lighting, fabrics, and projections that create a translucent, living atmosphere for the performance. This research will show me how to layer visual elements to make the audience feel like they’re inside a permeable, breathing cell.
-
Material and biological textures that can be turned into fashion or stage design, so the costumes and set reflect the visual identity of the cell while still being wearable and functional in performance.
-
Acting physical forces and signals during mitosis, so I can translate those rhythms and tensions into sound. This research will guide how the sound moves through the space and how the audience feels the “living mitosis” sonically.
